REQUIREMENT HEAT 

Spearfish is looking for an experienced Ukrainian-speaking instructor to join and lead the delivery of Spearfish HEAT courses in Ukraine. The candidate would organise the current HEAT team, consisting of medics, security advisors, logisticians and guest speakers. The candidate would be responsible for the delivery of HEAT contracts, both current and future. Courses are run predominantly in Kyiv and Dnipro, but clients also request training in other cities, too. Please note, this is a full-time position, open only to Ukrainian citizens. 

Essential experience must include: 

  • Experience teaching or training security courses and workshops. 

  • Experience developing complex and technical training material, e.g.  crisis management, security analysis, cyber security, CBRN, first aid and medical trauma. 

  • Deep conceptual understanding of security risk management and risk assessment processes.

Spearfish Ukraine is looking for a Security Advisor to assist with collating, analysing and presenting security dynamics within Ukraine. They will assist with client-orientated activities, such as the provision of training, consultancy and journey management. The Security Advisor will support clients in Ukraine in their daily operations, ongoing security reviews, audits, and support of personnel. They will remain on standby for local emergency response, to coordinate with client HQ in the UK and Critical Incident Management Team (CIMT). They will work under the Country Manager in Ukraine and will be supported by the senior management team based in the UK. Tasks will include: 

  • Collation and analysis of security-related information from a wide variety of sources for use in Security Risk Assessment 

  • Supporting clients in their daily operations

  • Liaison with local security authorities

The role of the Global Security Analyst involves working with the Head of Operations, and one of Spearfish’s major development-sector clients, to manage the daily security of employees in the field and project locations across the world. 

The Role  

The Global Security Analyst is primarily responsible for monitoring security information feeds, disseminating timely intelligence to travellers, and providing actionable security advice. Formulating project security budgets, writing and editing Security Risk Assessments (SRAs) and coordinating in-country security support are also major components of the role.  The Global Security Analyst also provides support and capacity building to other Spearfish staff and consultants delivering work to other clients.  

 Duties of the GSA 

  • Actively monitoring open-source information feeds for risks to global travellers and offices  

  • Running the Overwatch Desk (associated countries of responsibility) including local agent support.  

  • Supporting Online Services. 

  • Disseminating timely intelligence and actionable security advice. 

  • Writing security budgets for international project proposals. 

  • Assisting the Head of Operations in the roll-out and client compliance with new security management systems. 

  • Monitoring and amending country risk levels.  

  • Writing and editing security reports. 

  • Conducting pre-travel security briefs and weekly security updates.  

  • Liaison between client security management and external information providers.  

  • Capacity building through client training days. 

  • Deputize for the Head of Operations during periods of absence.

Pay and work patterns 

The role would be full-time, with 5 days a week spent at the Spearfish Headquarters in Winchester (notwithstanding current and possible future CV19 restrictions). Occasional travel to client offices in Oxford and globally should be expected.  The candidate will report directly to the SSA and have reporting responsibility to the client’s administrative staff whilst also working closely with the rest of the Spearfish team.   

Salaried position (12-month contract): 

Salary + bonus package  

  • Ranging from £23,000 and £27,000 dependent on experience. 

  • Annual bonus payable at the end of the 12 months. 

  • 21 days holiday per annum, excluding public holidays.

Opportunity for an experienced Mozambique based Project Security Advisor (PSA) to provide security advice and support to multiple development sector projects, operating across the country Must be able to speak Portuguese language as well as being an English speaker.

Overview

This is a full-time position that will include in-country travel.

The Project Security Advisor (PSA) will support projects in Mozambique in their daily operations, ongoing security reviews, audits, and support of fieldwork teams. Locate initially in Maputo, the role may require support to a project office in Pemba.

The PSA will provide regular and reliable updates, accurate assessment and ongoing security advice for all office areas of operation. Finally, the PSA will remain on standby for local emergency response, to coordinate with our Client’s HQ office in the UK and Critical Incident Management Team (CIMT).

The PSA reports to the Spearfish Senior Security Advisor.

The PSA liaises directly with client project field staff, headquarters staff on security matters in their operational remit.

 

Job description

PSA will conduct Security Risk Assessment (SRA) updates for all project locations, to determine current risk ratings and suitable mitigation measures

PSA will monitor both domestic and international travel as required

PSA will work with relevant projects to identify any gaps in the current project security measures

PSA will write and maintain office security and contingency plans:

  • Security Standard Operating Procedures (personal security, hotel safety, vehicle checks, lost communications etc)

  • Easy to follow Hibernation, Relocation, Evacuation and Medical Evacuation plans

  • Plans updated throughout the project to reflect changes in the security situation

  • Ongoing security situation updates - a professional assessment is vital to ensure reliable and valid security updates

 Training Provided 

You will receive training and mentorship by the SSA in the skills required of a deployable security consultant. This training will include: 

  • Conduct of a security review including location and building security, travel and accommodation security considerations 

  • Report and review writing 

  • Identification and mitigation of risks 

  • Development of Hibernation, Relocation and Evacuation plans 

  • Development of Medical Evacuation plans 

  • Journey Management planning 

  • Client supplier and due diligence reviews including transport 

Pay and work patterns 

The role would be full-time, with 5 days a week spent at the Spearfish Headquarters in Winchester (notwithstanding current and possible future CV19 restrictions). Occasional travel to client offices in Oxford and globally should be expected.  The candidate will report directly to the SSA, but also have reporting responsibility to the client’s administrative staff whilst also working closely with the rest of the Spearfish team.   

Salaried position (12-month contract): 

Salary + bonus package  

  • Ranging from £25,000 and £27,500 dependent on experience. 

  • Annual bonus payable at the end of the 12 months. 

  • 21 days holiday per annum, excluding public holidays.

The main objective for this role is to; attract and secure by a contract, viable market clients for the Spearfish South Asia team. The Marketing & Sales Officer would take but is not restricted to the following approach.

Fully understand the product and services that Spearfish South Asia offers:

The MSO is expected to be fully knowledgeable of the products and services on offer by Spearfish South Asia. He/She must be able to not only present in detail the offerings but also be comfortable enough with the products/services to be able to see when and how they can be applicable to the prospective client as well as know when and how to slightly adapt and adjust the offering if required to ensure a sale.

 Adaptive and comprehensive marketing approach:

The profile that will support the implementation of the marketing and sales strategy for SSA will not only build the SSA presence and reputation but also ensure operational value for money for all potential clients. Based on inputs from all Spearfish management levels in India and the United Kingdom, this will ensure a comprehensive, collaborative, flexible & inclusive approach. Responsibilities

The role is considered a “static” role meaning that the Marketing and Sales Officer is not a travelling role but is based in either Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru and Chennai identifying, communicating and making every effort to successfully commit prospective clients to contract SSA to deliver any of the products or offerings available.

Daily oversight and will come from the SSA Director or the Spearfish Marketing & Operations manager.

Daily Activities:

Identify potential clients for Spearfish South Asia;

2. General

a. The position will be based in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, but regular travel is required throughout the region. There may be requirement for occasional travel in the wider African continent or to the UK.

3. Monitoring and Evaluation

a. Conduct risk assessments on areas of operation to define the risk level and resulting Preventive Security Requirements (PSR).

b. Review the compliance of projects and the country office with PSR.

c. Supporting country and project management in the production and maintenance of security plans and briefings.

d. Oversight of project journey management system.

e. Inspection of project vehicles, accommodation, offices and work places in order to ensure compliance with PSR.

 

4. Training/Mentoring

a. Conduct relevant security awareness training for staff/consultants, including enumerators and field survey teams.

b. Coordinate specialist training in first aid, driving, fire safety and other disciplines as required by project and country offices.

c. Conduct relevant security management training for designated project Security Focal Points (SFP), Accountable Position Holders (APH) and Managers.
