Regional Security Advisor

Opportunity for an experienced Ethiopia based Regional Security Advisor (RSA) to provide security advice and support to multiple development sector projects, operating across the country Must be able to speak local language as well as being an English speaker.

This is a full-time position which will include in-country travel.

Start Date: March

The Regional Security Advisor ( RSA) will support projects in Ethiopia in their daily operations, ongoing security reviews, audits, and support of fieldwork teams.

 By fusing a range of information sources, the RSA will provide regular and reliable updates, accurate assessment and ongoing security advice for all office areas of operation. Finally, the RSA will remain on standby for local emergency response, to coordinate with our Client’s HQ office in the UK and Critical Incident Management Team (CIMT).

The RSA reports to the Spearfish Senior Security Advisor.

The RSA liaises directly with client project field staff, headquarters staff and Global Security Manager on security matters in their operational regions.

 

Job description

RSA will conduct Security Risk Assessment (SRA) updates for all project locations, to determine current risk ratings and suitable mitigation measures

RSA will work with relevant projects to update their Protective Security Requirement (PSR) scorecard, to identify any gaps in the current project security measures

RSA will write and maintain office security and contingency plan, informed by the PSR scorecard:

  • Security Standard Operating Procedures (personal security, hotel safety, vehicle checks, lost communications etc)

  • Provides emergency contact numbers

  • Easy to follow Hibernation, Internal Relocation, External Relocation and Medical Evacuation plans, for emergency situations

  • Plans updated throughout the project to reflect changes in security situation

Ongoing security situation updates - a professional assessment is vital to ensure reliable and valid security updates

Security advice as requested

Standby for emergency response

Regular liaison with staff, to ensure adherence to the security plan

 Administrative

Submit monthly time-sheets to Spearfish.

Provide work acceptance documents for any sub-contractors utilised by Spearfish to support the client in Ethiopia.

Ensure operational documents are stored in Spearfish data storage system and locally backed up.

Ensure personal documents are maintained up to date with Spearfish head office.
