Major resilience challenges across the globe - Resilience conference 2014
Spearfish Chairman Lord West will be discussing the underlying issues that need to be addressed to ensure future resilience at the forthcoming Resilience conference.
The aim of the two-day conference on the 13th and 14th of November, this month, will be to discuss the lessons learned from major sectors, and to determine how best to integrate resilience traits into mainstream policy and infrastructure - in order to address emerging global security risks.
Resilience in the United Kingdom has changed dramatically over the years. Within the last 10 years we have improved our infrastructure protection as well as our crisis management and response capabilities, however the risks clearly still remain: Other sectors lag behind government in reducing exposure. Future risks facing the UK are likely to be more complex and potentially dangerous; and their global nature reduces our capability to manage them on our own. As we continue to move forward, and act on our learnings, the public sector in particular - previously the primary resilience and emergency response - continues to shrink.
We look forward to hearing the outcome of the debates at tomorrow's conference. For details of the programme www.rusi.org/ukresilience.
